The First Bowen Law of the Costume Drama

The quality of a costume drama is in inverse proportion to the amount of screen time devoted to watching people ride horses.

Funny, and probably somewhat true, but "Mansfield Park" was pretty good and I think they did some horse stuff, and "Emma" too- maybe there is an Austen exception?

There could be an Austen exception, but generally, if you're constantly showing people i transition from one manor of estate to the next, it's a sign of thinness.
