Agreed. I'm not sure what the male audiences thought of her in her day, but Patricia Neal (as Dominique Francon in The Fountainhead, 1949) didn't do it for me. Plus Dagny is the ultimate Objectist heroine. Jolie as Dagny is a dream.
But beyond the hot female lead, what can we expect from the movie? How can you take a well-written, genius-level book with such deep philosophical insights and translate it effectively to the big screen?
The Fountainhead movie failed in this regard, as did Big Trouble (2002). So while I look forward to Atlas Shrugged I fear it will meet the same fate.
Big Trouble was overlooked and underrated. the problem with Atlas Shrugged is that how do you translate 50 page speeches of bat shit insane gobbldeygook into compelling cinema. I suggest boobs. As for Atlas Shrugs, I think the problems are deeper than the script.
Pinko, the proper term is "Randroid", not "Randie".
But I guess you're right. If Rand were alive today, she'd be a neo-conservative happily shilling for Romney or whoever spoke toughest against the Muslims on last night's Glenn Beck show, just the way this site does.
Due to a recent Federal Trade Commission decision, I think it best to reveal that, yes, I receive free admission to most of the films that I review. This is the standard practice among film reviewers, and it does not affect my opinion. Unless noted otherwise, you should assume that I received free admission. I have never been on a junket and I do not plan to start. Although in the future, it is possible that I might decide to start interviewing actors, directors, etc.

Everyone's doing year-end review stuff. You should do something different. How about writing a preview of what you're looking for in 2008 films?
Specifically your expecations for Atlas Shrugged.
I look forward very much to this Joli-Pitt coupling. Joli as Dagny should provide legions of objectivist shut-ins with spank bankable content.
I can't wait for the Greenspan "blurb"

I cannot believe that Atlas Shrugs website - thank you for ruining my day with that link. Can the estate of Ayn Rand sue them?
rEVOLution 08, I just don't think you are enough of real Ayn Randie. I mean Pam "Atlas Shrugs" is a real acolyte. She's my Dagny Taggart.

That was aggressive.
