MoW vs. Grizzly Man

While writing my top ten list, I noticed the similarity between two of my number ones over the past four years of film reviewing - Man on Wire and Grizzly Man. They’re extremely similar stories of fairly similar men, but one ends in accomplishment and one in a bear’s stomach.

I'm not sure what to think. What do you all make of this?

The only difference between them was their fate, wasn't it? They were both passionate about something, each passion just as death defying as the other, and it seems no matter the end, each was an accomplishment: we know about the bears and Phillipe walked on the wire.

It also seems each of them would have been less on the renowned side had their fates switched and Timothy had lived and made his film (as opposed to Werner Herzog coming along and piecing it together) and Phillipe had died and could not have been the life force behind Man on Wire.

Grizzly Man is a powerful film, as in Man on Wire, but in a different way. Interestingly, I prefer Grizzly Man over Man on Wire, but would rather have coffee with Phillipe than with Timothy...

You like men with weird fetishes ;)

I probably would choose Grizzly Man over Man on Wire, as well. I would say the biggest difference between the men is that Treadwell comes from insecurity and Petit comes from extreme confidence.
